The Custom Scheduler

Not a plug-in — a real-time booking engine

Instead of bolting on a third-party widget, we built Grandes Ligas its own scheduler, tuned to how the shop actually runs its chairs.

Live availability, zero refreshes

Open time slots recompute in real time from Firestore subscriptions. When one customer books or a barber blocks time, everyone else’s calendar updates instantly — so double-bookings simply can’t happen.

15-minute slot grid

A 9 AM–7 PM grid in 15-minute increments with a month-ahead lookahead and automatic buffering — a longer cut correctly reserves the slots that follow it.

Barber time-blocking

Staff block single slots or multi-day ranges — lunch, training, vacation — and the booking view hides them the moment they’re set.

Automated reminders

A scheduled cloud job runs every 15 minutes, sending appointment reminders to customers before their slot — no manual chasing from the front desk.

Secure Backend

Built on a secure, production-grade backend

Booking a haircut should feel simple. Everything that makes it safe runs quietly underneath.

Role-based auth

Amazon Cognito with owner, manager, and barber roles — a barber can only edit their own appointments.

Hardened endpoints

Server-side input sanitization, validation, and rate limiting on every notification endpoint.

SMS compliance

Opt-in tracking with STOP/HELP keyword handling on a registered origination number.

Isolated CI/CD

Separate testing and production environments, auto-deployed through GitHub Actions to AWS Amplify.

The Full Build

A shop-floor dashboard and a bilingual storefront

Owner-ready admin dashboard

Live stats, full appointment management, barber profiles with photo uploads, time-blocking, a contact-message inbox, staff-user management, and data export — plus printable EN/ES job aids so the team could run it from day one.

Bilingual (EN/ES) storefront

A fully responsive marketing site in both English and Spanish — services, team, schedule, gallery, and booking — serving Framingham’s bilingual community with no app download required. Every booking triggers email and SMS confirmations with an .ics calendar invite.
We didn’t bolt a booking widget onto a template. In six weeks Grandes Ligas got a bilingual site and a custom, real-time scheduler on a secure backend they own.
